Searches have been underway since this morning, ordered by the Milan Public Prosecutor's Office and delegated to the Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, as part of an investigation in which the offence of issuing invoices for non-existent transactions is alleged, centring on Finalter (the consulting firm in which Mayor Giuseppe Sala held a 20 percent stake — placed in a trust) and the multinational company Engineering.
As has been learned, the Guardia di Finanza went to Finalter's registered offices and to the homes and offices of its chief executive officer, Genoese accountant Giorgio Mezzadri, and of the consulting firm's founder and board member, Pietro Galli. Both are reported to be under investigation.
The inquiries concern consulting services totalling approximately 2 million euros commissioned by the IT giant, in whose board of directors Galli sits — at the time a collaborator of Sala for Expo 2015 — on behalf of the NB Renaissance fund. Yesterday, Galli resigned from the board of directors of ATM, Milan's public transport company.
Meanwhile, also today, Mayor Sala dissolved the trust through which he held a stake in Finalter, as he had announced in the City Council when he appeared last week to explain his position in the company.
