Seven prison police officers ended up in the emergency room at the Civile hospital in Brescia after intervening to stop two inmates who, drunk, were setting fire to their cell. It happened this afternoon, around 6 p.m., at the Canton Mombello prison.
The intervention was particularly difficult: according to the union that reported the incident, the two inmates allegedly poured oil and liquid soap on the floor and covered themselves with oil to prevent officers from dragging them out of the cell. Once one of the two was restrained, the other allegedly attacked the officers with kicks and punches. Seven officers sustained bruises or injuries and were taken to hospital.
