MOSCOW, October 8. /TASS/. There can be no talk of any interference by Russia in elections abroad; unlike the West, Moscow does not engage in such practices Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.
She commented on remarks by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who suggested that Russia might attempt to influence elections in Italy.
"There can be no suspicion of Russian interference in electoral processes abroad. That is not our style - unlike Western political elites, who brazenly and crudely intrude into election campaigns before the eyes of the entire world, and sometimes even kidnap national presidents, exert direct pressure on the political communities of states that interest them, or - I repeat - act with absolute impunity. Nothing constrains them as they shape political processes in sovereign nations," she said.
