"The amendment to the bill on healthcare professions approved in recent days by the Chamber's Social Affairs Committee, with Fratelli d'Italia as its primary sponsor, which introduces an extraordinary procedure for the reinstatement to professional registers of healthcare workers struck off following disciplinary measures adopted during the pandemic, represents a very concerning political development." This is stated in a press release by Pd regional councillors Giovanni Manildo, leader of the Democratic Party group, and Chiara Luisetto, vice-president of the Health Committee. "On one hand, we are faced with a political pardon for the irresponsibility of those healthcare workers who boycotted the vaccination campaign at the peak of the pandemic emergency, thereby obstructing the hard-fought battle underway to protect public health. At the same time, the amendment would lead to the introduction of special legislation that directly intervenes in the effects of disciplinary measures taken by the Professional Orders. In short," the press release concludes, "a genuine act of interference that could in turn open the door to political meddling in other measures adopted in compliance with the deontological code and scientific evidence."
