PARIS, October 24. /TASS/. Police in Lyon (central France) used tear gas to disperse students who attempted to hold a demonstration near Lyon 3 University despite a government ban, the Actu.fr news portal reported.
Around 150 people attempted to stage a protest, but law enforcement officers arriving at the scene ordered them to clear the area in front of the university. In response, several youths began shouting insults at the officers, who then moved to forcibly disperse the crowd using tear gas during the confrontation.
Earlier, the prefect of the Rhone department banned all public gatherings for October 24 to prevent unrest similar to the riots on October 17. Enhanced security measures were implemented across the city, featuring an expanded presence of police and gendarmes on the streets. The prefect also imposed a curfew from 11:00 p.m. Saturday until 6:00 a.m. Sunday.
