MUMBAI: Popular Marathi actress and lavani exponent

Madhu Kambikar passed away in Pune at age 73 on Monday.

She had become a household name in the 1970s-80s with films and songs like Shaapit (Disa zateel disa yeteel) and Hyoch Navra Pahije (Aala thandicha mahina).

Her plays include Gadhavacha Lagna, Vichha Majhi Puri Kara, Vastraharan and her own Sakhi Majhi Lavani.

She graduated to playing mother to Laxmikant Berde in Ek Hota Vidushak and Zapatlela, and to Nana Patekar, who was older than her, in Yeshwant and Hum Dono.

Other films are Shola Aur Shabnam, Goshta Chhoti Dongara-evdhi, Paij Lagnachi, and two with Dada Kondke namely Yeu Ka Gharat and Mala Gheun Chala.

Kambikar won the Maharashtra State Film Award, Filmfare Marathi and Zee Chitra Gaurav among others.
