A 42-year-old Italian inmate took his own life in the prison of Ivrea. The man was found hanged at around 11 p.m. yesterday in the cell he shared with another prisoner. According to reports, he used a makeshift noose. "What happened is exactly what we had already warned about after two inmates took their own lives in Biella and Verbania. With 30% fewer prison police officers in facilities, we will continue to witness unacceptable tragedies," declared Leo Beneduci, secretary general of Osapp.
"Italian prisons are now in complete disarray and in total disorder: immediate action is needed without further delay," added Beneduci.
