Regarding the application of the Piantedosi-Valditara circular on school checks with metal detectors, "from February to May 2026, 2,828 interventions were carried out involving 276 schools across the national territory, with the seizure of several dozen offensive weapons, including: knives, brass knuckles, scimitars, air pistols, batons, and machetes." This was stated by the Minister of Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara. "Now that it has been discovered that 70% of young people are in favour of this type of checks," the minister added, "one should rather ask those political forces that have contested the measure as repressive what should not be repressed: the right to carry knives to school?"
