MUMBAI: Sakinaka police arrested a 35-year-old unemployed man for allegedly setting a cow ablaze and torching 15 parked motorcycles and three shops at Yadav Nagar on Khairani Road early Wednesday.
Police said Akash Yadav, allegedly drunk, went on an arson spree around 5.30am. CCTV footage showed him carrying petrol and setting the cow's mouth on fire before damaging vehicles and commercial stalls.
The cow, one of eight kept in a shed, suffered burns. Its owner, Vijay Yadav, suspected the attack followed a confrontation two days earlier, when Akash allegedly knocked down parked motorcycles and threatened him after being confronted.
The family noticed the fire after hearing the cows mooing and alerted the fire brigade and police. Firefighters brought the blaze under control.
Police said the accused had a criminal history and frequently created nuisance in the locality. He remains in custody.
