NEW YORK, September 26. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s ceasefire proposal and told his close associates that strikes against the Islamic Republic could be restarted after the November 3 elections to Congress, according to the Wall Street Journal.
"President Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterms," the paper quoted a source as saying.
Trump is skeptical Iran would meet his demands and has told his staff that he sees a renewed bombing campaign as likely, the officials said, according to the paper.
The article notes that Trump has not yet decided on the scale of potential strikes. According to the publication, the American leader does not want "to resume major combat operations," partly because of dwindling munitions.
As Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated earlier, Tehran has conveyed to the United States via Qatar a seven·day plan to restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump earlier this month expressed confidence that the war with Iran would end immediately after the midterms, and possibly even before them.
