"I am glad that the Court of Appeal has suspended the enforcement of my removal from office, recognising the existence of the serious and irreparable harm suffered, not by me, as mayor, but by Riace and its citizens, who in 2024 reaffirmed their trust in me by asking me to lead the Municipality." This is how Mimmo Lucano commented to ANSA on the decision by the Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria, which has restored his ability to carry out his duties as mayor while awaiting the Court of Cassation's ruling on his removal from office.
"Today's decision," he added, "is yet another occasion to highlight the enormous political contradictions that have characterised my entire judicial case. I am aware that we are going through a period in which what concerns me is a small matter compared to the disasters that are happening in Italy, in Europe and in the world. We now await the Court of Cassation's ruling with confidence, but with the awareness that I will continue to work as always with the same conviction that even from a small municipality like Riace, contributions can be made to improve the world."
