MUMBAI: Around 10 IIT-Bombay students protesting on campus for the past month were detained by police on Sunday as demonstrations continued over the death of student Sahil Wakode.
The students have been holding relay hunger strikes and staging protests near the campus’s main gate.
Sahil’s parents, Ravindra and Sonali, are expected to visit the institute on Sunday to pay homage to their son, who died by suicide in his hostel room on September 18.
Meanwhile, activists and students from various organisations who gathered outside the main gate for a protest on Sunday morning were also detained. They said they were being taken to Saki Naka police station.
The protesters and Sahil’s parents have been demanding accountability from the institute. His parents have also sought the arrest of Prof Suryanarayana Doolla, who was named in the FIR.
The students protesting inside the campus were expected to hold a candlelight march on Sunday evening.
