MOSCOW, October 3. /TASS/. A protest is underway on Independence Square in central Kiev - people gathered at the urging of Ukrainian serviceman Alexander Todorov, who is currently in custody, the Ukrainian news outlet Strana reported.

According to the publication, one of the protesters’ main demands is the swift conclusion of a peace agreement with Russia. Footage from the scene shows one demonstrator holding a sign reading: "Stop the war, peace only!"

Alexander Todorov is an Odessa journalist and human rights activist who now serves in the military. In early September, he called on people to gather in central Kiev and protest against the current authorities and lawlessness in the country. According to Strana, a small number of people attended a protest on September 10. The news outlet said a much larger crowd gathered today.

Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) officers detained Todorov on September 19 and placed him in custody on charges of being absent without leave.
