Record heat and the grip of the African anticyclone across all of Trentino-Alto Adige, where the fourth heatwave of the season is being recorded, with the freezing level shooting up to an altitude of 4,900 metres.
According to forecasts, the peak of the heatwave is expected between Thursday 30 July and Thursday 6 August, with eight consecutive days of temperatures well above average. In Trentino, after the approximately 33 degrees recorded in Trento, values are set to rise by a further 3 or 4 degrees over the weekend, as environmental engineer and meteorology lecturer for the Trentino Alpine Guides College Giacomo Poletti explains. The only brief respites possible: a quick spell of showers on the evening of Wednesday 29 and a low probability of isolated thunderstorms next week, thanks to westerly currents.
A similar scenario in Alto Adige where, as provincial meteorologist Dieter Peterlin points out, the 'Hitzwelle' will push mercury columns even higher beyond the 34.7 degrees already reached in the Adige Valley, accompanied by the arrival of tropical nights.
