DOHA, October 3. /TASS/. Yemeni government forces carried out 474 attacks on positions of the rebel Ansar Allah movement - the Houthis - over the past 24 hours, killing or wounding more than 1,500 militants, Yemeni Armed Forces Spokesman Col. Majed Al-Nuzaili said.
"The operations killed or wounded 1,540 Houthis, most of them on the Taiz fronts, and destroyed or disabled 216 pieces of military equipment," he wrote on X.
The strikes involved combat aircraft, drones, artillery and missile systems, the military spokesman said. Al-Nuzaili added that the operations covered several fronts, including the provinces of Al-Jawf, Marib, Al-Bayda, Lahj, Sanaa and Saada. The main focus was on rebel positions in Taiz, where government forces thwarted Houthi attempts to break through.
An armed confrontation between the Houthis and government forces backed by Saudi Arabia has continued in Yemen since August 2014. Ansar Allah launched an offensive in southwestern Yemen in early August and seized the port city of Mokha and territories providing access to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on September 10-11. The Emirati newspaper The National reported that fierce fighting had resumed near the strategically important city of Taiz.
