"Dear Public Prosecutor of Ravenna, who is investigating doctors in the CPR detention centres, you have carried out an act that goes against Article 68 of the Constitution, and you did so knowingly. You have acquired my telephone conversations with Dr. Nicola Cocco." This was written by Senator Ilaria Cucchi, referring to the doctor from Varese, who is under investigation for criminal association in the Ravenna Prosecutor's Office inquiry into alleged false medical certificates issued to prevent the transfer of migrants to CPR detention centres. Article 68 of the Constitution establishes the requirement for authorisation from the relevant Chamber before intercepting a parliamentarian's conversations or communications.
"Know this, dear Public Prosecutor: this does not frighten me – I have nothing to hide – but I perceive it as an act of intimidation. Know this, dear Public Prosecutor: this will not stop me, and I will not cease to address this matter and to work against the institution of CPR detention centres, which are useless and inhumane facilities."
