PHUKET, October 9. /TASS/. The Thai-Russian Chamber of Commerce (TRCC) has opened a representative office in Thailand's Phuket province. TRCC President Vitaly Kiselev told TASS that the resort island has emerged as a major hub for Russian business within the Kingdom in recent years.
"In terms of qualitative indicators, Phuket is now second only to Bangkok, while quantitatively, it may well rank first for Russian business concentration," Kiselev said, noting a recent influx of Phuket-based corporate members. "Therefore, we are missing out on significant membership and outreach opportunities by not operating here."
Outlining priorities for the new office, located at the Andaman Riviera Residences, the TRCC head identified three core objectives: uniting the local business community under the chamber's auspices, providing professional guidance to entrepreneurs navigating Thailand's increasingly complex regulatory environment, and expanding membership. The TRCC currently comprises over 80 members and aims to hit the 100-member milestone by year-end.
Phuket Vice Governor Romdon Hayiawa told the opening ceremony that the launch marks a major milestone for the province. "Thailand and Phuket have long welcomed Russian visitors, many of whom return annually or have chosen to make the island their home," Hayiawa said. "The opening of this office reflects the growing weight of the Russian entrepreneurial community in Thailand."
The vice governor emphasized that the initiative extends far beyond tourism. "It will strengthen ties between local Thai businesses and international residents, foster cultural exchange, and contribute to the island's long-term development. I hope this office serves as a platform where acquaintance builds trust, and trust yields meaningful cooperation between Thailand and Russia," he added.
