This afternoon, following a storm in Florence with over 45 millimeters of rain falling in one hour, a water leak occurred at the Uffizi Gallery beneath the skylight of the room housing seven 17th-century paintings, including Caravaggio's Bacchus.
The leak, as reported by the museum, splashed water onto the outer glass of the protective case containing the Bacchus. "Following the necessary checks," the museum announced, "no damage was found to any of the works."
The room will reopen tomorrow morning.
