"Tens of thousands in the square for
Spin Time from the very start of the march. The message sent
by the city is clear: Spin Time everywhere. Not only within the
walls of the building at Via di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme 55, but
in all the neighbourhoods where the housing emergency and the social
emergency find no innovative solutions and no alternatives to
property speculation. Inside the march: social centres, trade unions, parties,
Catholic associations, social movements, the third sector,
students and migrants. Society as a whole is calling for a different city, a
different way of living urban spaces." This is the statement from the movement that organised
today's demonstration.
"Across Italy, Investire Sgr, the fund that holds ownership
of the building - Spin Time explains - has been the target of
several protest actions in defence of Spin, but also in
opposition to a public policy that for too long has
chosen to determine the transformation of our cities
through the sell-off of public assets, in favour of
private management. Today's march brings the housing issue
back to centre stage - not an emergency of this moment, but a
perennial emergency. Spin Time, like other similar experiences, offers new
alternatives that institutions should have the courage to
recognise and replicate. We are speaking to the right wing, which pretends to
manage this emergency with a bogus housing plan that makes a
mockery of Italians. But we are also addressing the entire
left: housing must be at the centre of any political agenda
today. The right to housing is fundamental and
inalienable."
