Flight, exile, migrations, diasporas, generational breaks and farewells. 'Departures' is the title of the 2026-2027 season at the Kismet theatre in Bari: 22 shows, from October through to next April, to tell the story of the act of leaving in all its forms.
'Departures' will be characterised by a more pronounced international flavour, with four productions from Belgium ('Flesh' by the Belgian company 'Still Life' is the opening show on 17 and 18 October), Albania ('Diaspora. Where the Sky Ends' will recount, on 7 and 8 November, the arrival of the ship Vlora in the port of Bari in 1991), Georgia ('Maro' on 30 and 31 January, by Physical Company Hoi, dedicated to the life of nurse Maro Makashvili who died at 19 while fighting against Russian occupation) and Spain (Alberto Cortés with 'One Night at the Golden Bar', on 13 and 14 March).
Among the premieres, the theatre will host 'Dell'amore e di altri sbagli' on 5 and 6 December, based on the book by Giancarlo Visitilli with Luigi D'Elia. Among the returning acts are Concita De Gregorio with her 'Di madre in figlia', on 6 and 7 February, and Lino Guanciale with 'Flusso', on 24 and 28 February. Finally, ten events are planned for the 'Family Theatre Season' section, designed to bring younger audiences closer to the stage.
At the presentation of the programme, held at the Puglia Regional Council headquarters, those present included, among others, Regional Culture Councillor Silvia Miglietta, Bari City Council Culture Councillor Paola Romano, the artistic co-directors of Teatri di Bari, Teresa Ludovico and Gianni Forte, and Augusto Masiello, one of the founders of the Kismet company. For Miglietta, it represents "an important occasion", especially "at a time when we are very much in need of theatre. The international outlook and new beginnings, as guiding principles for the season, are necessary at a stage when we need to rediscover a new humanity."
