A sporting competition bringing together the best civilian and military drone pilots, who will compete on specific courses to test their skills, concentration and flight precision.
Two days in Rome for the 'Esercito 1659 Drone Challenge', at the 'Pietro Giannattasio' military racetrack in Tor di Quinto.
The initiative is promoted by the Ministry of Defence and organised by Difesa Servizi, the ministry's in-house company that develops the department's assets with a dual-use approach, and by the Italian Army.
The beating heart of the event is the FPV (first person view) Challenge, a discipline in which pilots fly drones while wearing special goggles that transmit images from the on-board camera in real time to screens installed on the stands, allowing visitors to experience the challenge first-hand. The pro competition, the fourth stage of the Italian FPV drone championship, will be accompanied by an 'open' competition accessible to all. Among those attending the opening ceremony will be the Army Chief of Staff, Carmine Masiello, and the Chief Executive Officer of Difesa Servizi, Luca Andreoli. Italian drone champion Luisa Rizzo will take part in the race. The initiative also benefits from the institutional partnership of the Minister for Sport and the Lazio Region, and the patronage of CONI and the Municipality of Rome.
