MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/. The Russian Navy Baltic Fleet’s training ship Perekop has for the first time arrived at the Seychelles port of Victoria, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"The Baltic Fleet’s training ship Perekop, currently on a long-distance training deployment for cadets of the Russian Navy’s academies has for the first time arrived at the port of Victoria of the Republic of Seychelles as part of a business call," the ministry stated.
The ministry said that the Baltic Fleet’s crew was greeted at the port by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Vorobyov, Russia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Seychelles Kirill Sokolov-Shcherbachev, principal consular officer Vladimir Yastrzhembsky, Minister-Counselor Dmitry Iordanidi, Senior Counselor Alexander Odoevsky, Attache Daria Lyaginskaya, as well as representatives of the Seychelles Coast Guard.
"The Russian ship’s business call program envisages crew members’ participation in protocol, cultural, and sporting events. In addition, the navy sailors with a Russian delegation will visit the grave of their compatriot, senior ship’s doctor Alexander Krupenin, where they will lay wreaths and flowers," the ministry said.
About exercise cruise
Cadets from the Admiral Ushakov Baltic Naval Institute are undergoing navigation training aboard the Perekop training ship. Foreign military personnel from friendly nations, Tanzania and Mozambique, who are studying naval science in Russia, joined the Russian cadets on the voyage. In addition, cadets from Namibia, Congo, Cameroon, and Guinea are scheduled to board the ship along the route as part of their shipboard training.
The Perekop’s navigational voyage began in July and will last until mid-December. In total, the ship is expected to cover about 30,000 nautical miles. Its route passes through the Northern Sea Route, four oceans, 14 seas, 23 straits, and nine gulfs.
