Two teachers employed at a comprehensive school in a municipality in northern Salento are under investigation by the Lecce Public Prosecutor's Office for abuse of disciplinary measures and mistreatment of an 11-year-old disabled pupil. One of the two women, a support teacher, is accused of making demeaning remarks to the child, publicly highlighting her slowness and learning difficulties, and failing to provide adequate assistance even in difficult situations. The second, a mathematics teacher, is alleged to have engaged in repeated acts of harassment and humiliation, denying the pupil even access to the bathroom, as well as making offensive public reprimands, and even filming her on a mobile phone while she was in difficulty, without parental consent, thereby causing the eleven-year-old pathological suffering and distress. The alleged incidents took place between February and May of this year. The investigation was launched following a complaint filed by the girl's parents after she fainted in class last June during a lesson taught by one of the two teachers following a sudden illness, and was taken to hospital. This year the student will attend a different school.
