MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. Switzerland’s neutral status is ‘an attempt at wishful thinking,’ Russian Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov stated.
"Switzerland is no longer a neutral state for Russia. This is Switzerland’s choice. No offense," Ulyanov stated on his X social network page commenting on Switzerland’s recent vote in a public referendum on the neutrality status.
"This situation has proven that Switzerland is not strong enough to be truly neutral and that neutrality is merely an attempt at wishful thinking, not a principled stance of this country," he added.
On Sunday, Swiss voters rejected an initiative in a referendum that would have enshrined the principle of perpetual and comprehensive neutrality in the Swiss Constitution, as well as lifted anti-Russian sanctions and prohibited Switzerland from joining NATO.
According to the voting results, 70.15% of voters opposed the initiative, while 29.85% supported it. Voter turnout was 47.06%.
