A 34-year-old woman was shot during a robbery attempt in front of her own home in Capão Redondo, in the southern zone of São Paulo, on Thursday (23). She was with her ten-year-old son, who was not hit.
According to the Military Police, two men on a motorcycle approached the victim as she was leaving her uncle's house on Travessa Raízes da Comunidade. The main hypothesis is that the suspects were attempting to steal the woman's motorcycle.
Security camera footage shows the pair passing by the street and returning seconds later. Upon noticing them approaching, the woman attempted to speed away on her motorcycle. The man riding on the back then aimed a weapon and fired. The suspects fled without taking the vehicle.
The victim fell after being hit, while her son called for help. She was assisted by the Fire Department and airlifted by helicopter to Hospital das Clínicas. Her condition had not been reported by the time this article was published.
The SSP (State Public Security Secretariat) informed that forensic experts were called to the scene and that the case was registered at the 47th Police District (Capão Redondo) as an attempted robbery.
Capão Redondo leads in robberies
Robbery records in the city of São Paulo throughout 2025 show that neighborhoods with distinct socioeconomic profiles — both on the outskirts and in the expanded city center — are among those with the highest frequency of this type of crime.
Three of the ten police districts with the highest robbery records — Capão Redondo, Campo Limpo, and Parque Santo Antônio — are located in peripheral areas of the southern zone of the state capital. At the same time, wealthy neighborhoods in the western zone — Pinheiros and Perdizes — and neighborhoods with a diverse profile in the central region — Sé, Campos Elíseos, and Pari — are also among the areas with high incidence of robberies.
The nine districts with the highest robbery rates record at least five cases per day. With the exception of Parque Santo Antônio, all of them saw a reduction in the number of cases.
The 47th Police District, in Capão Redondo, received the highest number of robbery complaints in the city of São Paulo throughout 2025. There were 3,836 cases reported over the course of the year, in addition to 2,917 thefts.
In October, when the area had already emerged as the city's robbery leader, a Folha report showed how residents of Capão Redondo avoid walking alone through the neighborhood's streets. Subway and bus passengers are met by relatives or friends at stations and form small groups to walk short distances.
