A man of about 70 years old was struck by lightning and died while he was on the rocks near the beach, in the locality of Santa Lucia in Ostuni, in the province of Brindisi. The victim was in the company of a friend: the two were fishing when lightning struck them. The other person sustained no injuries. Police arrived at the scene to carry out investigations. All attempts to resuscitate the man by the medical personnel who responded were in vain. In the early afternoon, the coast of Ostuni was hit by an intense lightning strike, while the area further south was struck by a brief thunderstorm.
