"The budget cycle begins in September. We will have to make the best use of what will be the possibility - if Parliament gives us a mandate in this regard - of the national clause derogating from the Stability Pact. Next week we will go to the Chamber to ask Parliament to give us a mandate to proceed in Europe: this will open up significant budgetary room in terms of deviation, but precisely because it is a deviation, it will have to be used in a very intelligent and targeted way." This was stated by Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti in response to questions at a press conference following the Council of Ministers. "The discussion is open, the government will try to do the best things despite an external situation that is objectively very, very complicated," Giorgetti added. When asked about a video by Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani stating that the government intends to lower taxes, by exempting thirteenth-month salaries, abolishing car and motorcycle registration tax and reducing the IRPEF rate, Giorgetti replied: "I would like to do many other things as well."
