In the course of investigations into the attack on the Christopher Street Day event in Berlin, a video with a clear reference to "Islamic State" was discovered on the phone of alleged attacker Abdul B. As reported by rbb, citing the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the clip shows a fully masked individual swearing an oath of loyalty to the terrorist militia. Investigators therefore assume that the person is in all likelihood Abdul B. himself.

Abdul B. is alleged to have driven a van into a crowd near the CSD festival grounds on Saturday evening. According to initial investigations, he then allegedly attacked several people with a blunt or bladed weapon. One woman died, and 29 others were injured, some seriously. The 21-year-old subsequently fled the scene. One day after the attack, Abdul B. was shot and killed during a police operation at an allotment garden site in Berlin-Spandau.

21-year-old had been classified as a "high-risk individual"

The 21-year-old was born in Germany to Lebanese parents and held German citizenship. He had been known to authorities for some time. In May, he had been sentenced to a juvenile penalty for attempted affiliation with the terrorist militia IS. Taking into account time already served in pre-trial detention, he was released on so-called probationary suspension.

According to research by WDR, NDR and the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ), Abdul B. had been classified as a "high-risk individual" by an analytical tool used by the Federal Criminal Police Office just a few weeks before the attack. Surveillance measures against the Islamist had been in place until the very end.
