BERLIN, October 4. /TASS/. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has said that he doesn’t share Germans’ stance regarding issues of support for Ukraine.
"I am aware of these polls, I hear these viewpoints and I treat them seriously, although I don’t share them," he said during his visit to Kiev, as quoted by the DPA agency.
Some politicians say that Merz is rather a "Ukrainian chancellor" who is pushing his country, Germany, to escalation and further strains with Russia.
According to an opinion poll recently conducted by the Wahlen pollster for the ZDF television channel, the number of Germans supporting increased military aid to Ukraine from Europe is decreasing. Whereas in February, 43% of the polled said that European countries should intensify support for Kiev, in June, there were only 32% of such responses. The share of those calling for decreasing assistance to Ukraine, on the contrary, grew from 24% in February to 31% in June.
