TEL AVIV, October 29. /TASS/. Israel has asked Washington for permission to strike previously untargeted energy facilities in Iran if the military campaign against Tehran resumes, state broadcaster Kan reported, citing an Israeli source.
According to the broadcaster, Israel hopes US President Donald Trump will approve attacks on targets Washington has yet to authorize, particularly energy infrastructure.
On Wednesday, Trump told Republican Party supporters in Ohio ahead of the US midterm congressional elections that he intended to end the war against Iran very quickly.
The US and Israel began the war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate end to hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, overnight into July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing it of violating the provisions concerning the Strait of Hormuz. The US administration subsequently signaled that it was ending large-scale military action against Iran and shifting to a strategy of economic strangulation through sanctions.
