BERLIN, September 21. /TASS/. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) lost the vote in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, failing to make it into the regional parliament for the first time in Germany's history, the state election commission said, citing preliminary results after all ballots have been counted.
The CDU took a mere 4.9% of the vote, failing to cross the 5% threshold. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) won the state election with 38.2%, followed by the Social Democrats (SPD) with 35.5%.
