"They are one of the most in-form teams in the league, as was particularly evident in the first half against Milan. They have players who can individually decide a match at any moment. They have important qualities and a strong collective." This is how Giovanni Stroppa, Venezia's head coach, described Lazio at the press conference on the eve of the home clash at the Penzo.
The orange-green-and-black manager is well aware of the difficulties, with his team still on zero points in the standings, but maintains confidence in the work being done. He expressed faith in the path the team has taken, emphasising how results can come with time and consistency in daily work.
Stroppa reiterated that the team "trains with the right mindset" despite the injury absences that have taken their toll so far. "We are without Basic and Busio, two thirds of our first-choice midfield, but we are getting those who were behind in fitness back up to speed," he explained, highlighting the constant adjustments being made to cover for the absentees and find the right setup, including with new arrivals such as Juan Jesus, who "can give us a lot in terms of concentration and communication." He added that the integration of new players will be managed gradually so as not to disrupt the team's balance and dynamics.
The coach ruled out any radical tactical changes, stating that the preparation is identical to other matches, albeit with specific countermeasures planned for Lazio. Looking at the table, the manager admitted that "sitting on zero points is a burden," but highlighted the positive aspects in the team's performances and the squad's competitiveness: "Once at full strength, this team is very competitive. I have faith in these lads," he concluded, sending a message to the supporters and the city, ready to back the team at the Penzo. Stroppa extended an explicit invitation to the fans to stay close to the team, explaining that "the support of the home crowd can make the difference in home matches."
