Salim El Koudri has a psychiatric disorder, but this would not rule out his capacity to understand and to will at the moment when, last May 16, he drove his car into a crowd in Modena, mowing down people who were walking along the pedestrian stretch of Via Emilia Centro. These would be the first conclusions of the experts appointed by the preliminary investigating judge to shed light on the mental condition of the 31-year-old accused of massacre: in the attack, eight people were injured, and one of them, Monica Esposito, a 55-year-old woman from Nonantola, died in hospital two months later. The woman's husband was also among the injured. The man was restrained by several bystanders as law enforcement and emergency services arrived.
The findings will be shared with the parties' consultants. The final expert report will be discussed at a hearing on October 2.
