Mumbai: An intoxicated man has been arrested for allegedly trespassing into a highly restricted area at Pawan Hans, popularly known as Juhu airport, on August 29.
During questioning, Chandrapal Dhurve (27), a resident of Dindori district in Madhya Pradesh, told Santacruz police that he had climbed over one of the closed unmanned gates to enter the premises, said sources.
Around 12.15pm, Maharashtra Security Force guards Pramod Sarvarkar (52) and Somnath Khedkar spotted Dhurve walking on the internal road towards Bombay Flying Club’s operational base and training ecosystem and alerted chief security guard Sagar Halwankar. Security officials took Dhurve to the main gate for questioning, before handing him over to Santacruz police.
In his police complaint, Sarvarkar said: “Halwankar and I went to the ATC tower and apprehended the trespasser. We informed our SSO Nashikkar who took the man to the main gate and questioned him. When asked why he entered the airport, he did not respond. He was then handed over to the police.” Dhurve was arrested under Section 329(3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal trespass.
Police are investigating how Dhurve entered the secured area, his antecedents, and his purpose for visiting Mumbai.
