MOSCOW, September 18. /TASS/. Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin doesn't believe Yerevan's justifications for nationalizing the Electric Networks of Armenia hold water.
In response to a reporter’s question about the situation with Russian economic operators in Armenia, the diplomat cited the ongoing nationalization of CJSC Electric Networks of Armenia owned by businessman Samvel Karapetyan as an example.
"The ruling team is trying to justify its actions under the pretenses of ‘fighting corruption,’ returning illegally acquired funds to the treasury, and the desire to increase the company’s efficiency. Their veracity, however, is highly questionable," Galuzin noted.
"In reality, this looks more like a politically motivated crackdown on one of the competitors in the domestic arena."
Galuzin considers it telling that "before the entrepreneur entered politics in the country, there were no complaints about the company’s operations. At the same time, the new management, as far as we can tell, hasn't had a lot of success at the helm of the enterprise into which hundreds of millions of dollars were invested," the deputy foreign minister noted.
