Captain Monterisi is brimming with confidence two days before the home clash against Como.
"We know Como's strengths, we have great respect for opponents who have proven their worth," says the Frosinone defender, who previewed Sunday's match. "But we will work on ourselves and use our qualities to get a result."
The centre-back, now in his fifth season at Frosinone (against Como he could celebrate his 100th league appearance), is aware of the difficulties the match presents but is confident the team will be able to hold its own. "Como have players of great quality, they are a very attack-minded side, but Frosinone has prepared in the best possible way and we know what to put on the pitch," the Lazio side's captain continues. "In terms of defence, we will be up against Kean and Douvikas, who are strikers of European calibre. That is why we will need concentration, aggression, and we must not give them time to think."
Monterisi praises the group: "There is a positive atmosphere, the new players are integrating well, the team is united," the defender adds. "For a year and a half we have been taking it one day at a time, working hard with the goal of picking up points. We are one of the few sides in Europe that plays man-to-man, always looking to press forward. We enjoy it, even when it's tough." Competition with Cittadini does not bother him: against Como too it will be a battle for the starting spot. "I am at the manager's disposal — he knows what I can give and makes his choices," Monterisi maintains. "The same goes for the other teammates: everyone must be ready."
Finally, on the excellent start to the season (7 points from 4 games), he keeps his feet on the ground, drawing on the experience of 2023-2024, when Di Francesco's Frosinone had the same points tally after 4 games — yet the campaign ended in relegation, a wound that is still open. "We are aware that there will be difficult moments during the season," Monterisi concludes. "So we need to stay balanced, knowing we have the potential to overcome them. We are a strong group and we must keep moving forward on our own path."
