"I believe that amendment must be declared inadmissible 99% of the time, and so, except for that 0.1% which I leave out of fairness, that is what will happen." This is what the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, said regarding the amendment proposed by FdI on so-called dragnet wiretapping, thus anticipating the inadmissibility of the proposal in the chamber. La Russa made the statement at the traditional Ventaglio ceremony with the parliamentary press corps.
"On wiretapping, my position is not a mediation, it is a careful examination of the amendments," Senate President La Russa continued. "Beyond what I personally think, I have relied very heavily on the technical judgement of the offices. I asked: 'What degree of inadmissibility does this amendment have? High?' They told me: 'Not 100% but very high — if you want to make an exception, just say so.' No, I don't want to make any exception in this matter, I want to be respectful of my role. So I am not pulling the majority's chestnuts out of the fire, also because, if they wish, they can reintroduce it in another piece of legislation where there is no inadmissibility issue, and I believe that can quite easily happen."
"I don't see a drama," the President of the Senate also said, speaking about the use of the Safe fund. "I don't see a problem, but rather a normal procedure that may not lead to massive use of this fund, or that it may be deemed more convenient not to draw from this fund but from other means that are less costly for the Italian budget."
