A 38-year-old British tourist is missing in the waters of Lake Como at San Siro, where he disappeared beneath the surface while swimming together with the fifteen-year-old son of a family of friends with whom he had gone out on a boat.
Both he and the fifteen-year-old got into difficulty. The boy's father dived from the motorboat to help them, but managed to save only his son.
The man and the boy were rescued by a passing boat. The mother and another young child, aged ten, who had remained on the drifting motorboat, were brought to the dock by units of the Guardia di Finanza's Air and Naval Division.
The search for the 38-year-old, coordinated by the Coast Guard Operations Centre, is ongoing. A fire brigade helicopter with divers from Milan and two naval units from the fire brigades of Dongo and Como also attended the scene. The depths in that part of the lake range from 150 to over 200 metres.
