"I wanted to fulfill my dream": he stole a bus from line 236, picked up passengers, followed the route, but was caught when he crashed into another bus

Dreams are meant to be fulfilled, as a saying goes — and one man took it quite literally this Monday in Morón. He had always dreamed of driving a bus, and so he did, but to make his wish come true he stole one and was only caught when he collided with another bus from the same line.

"I wanted to fulfill my dream," he told the Buenos Aires Province police officers who arrested him in Morón this Monday. The "dream" was to drive a bus, but to do so he had to steal one — and that is exactly what he did.

The man took bus unit 404 of line 236, with the keys already in the ignition, in Pontevedra and headed toward Morón, where the line's terminal is located. He did not raise any suspicion among the passengers, as the aspiring driver followed the bus's scheduled route, collected fares and stopped at all the designated stops. It was another driver from the same line who suspected something was not right with that unit.

In Morón, Buenos Aires Province Police sources specified, the man sideswiped another line 236 bus with his vehicle, and that bus's driver did not recognize him as a fellow coworker. He immediately alerted the terminal that something strange was happening with unit 404, but headquarters responded that the service had not departed on its usual route. The alarms went off.

Line 236 staff set out to search for the stolen unit and, fortunately for them, intercepted it on the corner of Morón's 4th police precinct, at the intersection of Avenida Eva Perón and Santo Domingo.

While one employee stayed on board the unit with the dreamer, another went to the police station to seek help. "I wanted to fulfill my dream," he told the officers as soon as they approached him.

When Buenos Aires Province Police officers arrived at the bus, they found the man at the front of the vehicle, wearing a company polo shirt and with a knife hidden among his belongings. To their further surprise, they discovered he had forged a control log sheet with his name and had been filling it out throughout the journey.

According to the website Primer Plano Online, the Morón District Attorney's Office No. 2, led by prosecutor Fernando Capello, ordered a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether he is criminally liable or not.
