World Championship of Humanoid Robots: Robot Faster Over 100 Meters Than Usain Bolt
At the Humanoid Robot World Championships in China, a Chinese model has beaten Usain Bolt's 100-meter world record. It was not the first time that robots have run faster than humans.
A robot has beaten the existing human record in the 100-meter sprint at the opening of a world championship in China. During the opening ceremony of the World Humanoid Robot Games, the robot from the Chinese team X-Humanoid crossed the finish line in just 9.39 seconds. This beat the human best time of 9.58 seconds held by record holder Usain Bolt over this distance.
A robot from Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor had also previously beaten the Jamaican's record with a time of 9.32 seconds, as Chinese state television reported.
Honor's robot model, named Blitz, had already significantly beaten the human best time in the half marathon of approximately 21 kilometers back in April, with a time of 50 minutes and 26 seconds.
Robots Are a Future Industry for Beijing
Until August 26, further robots are set to compete against each other in various disciplines at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval in Beijing during the second edition of the Robot World Championships.
The organizers expect more than 660 teams with a total of more than 2,000 robots from 16 countries. Most teams come from China and represent companies and universities.
Among the 51 disciplines are long jump, weightlifting, table tennis, and soccer, as well as everyday scenarios such as household tasks and rescue operations.
