Meghan Markle is still in negotiations for a role in Guy Ritchie's series The Gentlemen, despite rumours that she had been dropped following the extremely strong negative reactions generated in the United Kingdom.
This is reported by the British tabloid The Sun, according to which Netflix executives are interested in seeing the Duchess of Sussex back on screen, following her departure from acting before her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, though no formal agreement has been reached.
The negotiations had been discussed in the context of the return of King Charles's second son and his wife to the United Kingdom, six years after the break with the royal family and the move to California. "Her return to acting should attract a wide audience, both among her supporters and her critics, and is likely to generate significant box office returns. It will be seen as a major coup for whoever manages to sign her," a source told the tabloid, which noted that deals in the world of film and major series often come together at the last minute.
It had been Tina Brown, former editor of The New Yorker and Vanity Fair as well as biographer and confidante of Lady Diana, who stated in a newsletter published on Substack that she had learned the casting of the Duchess of Sussex for the third season of The Gentlemen had been withdrawn.
