A social media back-and-forth between Matteo Renzi and Giorgia Meloni over the abolition of the road tax for cars up to 80kW, decided yesterday by the Council of Ministers.
It is the Italia Viva leader who fires the first shot, recalling in a post that when he had proposed the same measure, he had received harsh criticism from the current Prime Minister in return: "She called me a 'pots and pans salesman!' And she said – how shameful! – that I was doing it to cover up the news of the arrest of a PD mayor. This is Giorgia Meloni. A leader who attacks her opponents and then copies them: on drilling, on the Italicum, on everything."
Shortly after, Meloni's reply arrives as a comment on Renzi's own profile: "Well done, Matteo. Today you've discovered the difference between announcing and delivering," the Prime Minister states in response.
The IV leader in turn hits back, recalling the measures taken when he was at Palazzo Chigi and returning to criticise the current Premier: "Giorgia, I'm glad you follow me on social media. The difference between delivering and announcing? I delivered the 80 euro bonus, Industry 4.0, IRAP on labour costs, TAP, first home IMU. You announced leaving the euro, eliminating fuel duties, tax pressure at 40%. You announced a lot, you delivered little. If you're doing better on the road tax, I'm happy. Now, though, get off social media and get back to work at Palazzo Chigi – we're paying you to govern. Kisses."
