After the heat wave that affected Abruzzo in recent days, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees even in the mountains, the drop in temperatures forecast by experts has arrived, and the thermometer in the highest-altitude locations has reached almost wintry values. According to readings by the Caput Frigoris association, temperatures fell below zero in Pescocostanzo (-0.2 degrees), at 1,260 metres, and reached 0.4 degrees in Piani di Pezza (1,450 metres) and 1.6 degrees on the Cinque Miglia plateau (1,250 metres). Along the coast and in the valleys, however, temperatures are summery and exceed 30 degrees.
Experts at AbruzzoMeteo emphasise that "temperatures, following the sharp drop that occurred yesterday, will gradually begin to rise again, especially in inland areas and in the main valleys overlooking the Adriatic side. A gradual increase in cloud cover is forecast from the early hours of Sunday morning, starting from inland and mountainous areas, and the cloud cover will tend to intensify further in the afternoon and late afternoon, with possible showers and thunderstorms, most likely over Marsica, Alto Sangro, and locally in the L'Aquila area, though the possibility of weather events spreading towards the mountainous and foothill areas overlooking the Adriatic side cannot be ruled out, especially in the late afternoon."
