BERLIN, September 29. /TASS/. The overwhelming majority of German voters, or 87%, disapprove of Friedrich Merz’s performance as German chancellor, a recent survey by pollster Forsa conducted for RTL and NTV television channels found.
A mere 11% of respondents said they were satisfied with the head of government’s performance in office, while the others were undecided.
The share of supporters of the coalition of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) dissatisfied with the chancellor’s performance has increased by 3 percentage points to 59% compared with the previous week, while the number of those among supporters of the conservatives who have a positive view of Merz has fallen from 44% to 39%.
The survey was conducted among 2,501 people during the week of September 22.
In the election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on September 20, Merz’s CDU received less than 5% of the vote, failing to cross the threshold for the first time in the nation’s post-war history. Later that day in Berlin, the Christian Democrats lost the vote to the Left Party.
