Mumbai: The Bombay high court Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna on Wednesday, noting the “extreme urgency” cited by an NGO and a lawyer, posted a PIL against the imminent
protest by Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange for hearing on Thursday at 3 pm. The HC also directed the state to file a short affidavit “setting out the steps taken by the State Administration in regard to such protest, which are likely to take place in the City of Mumbai.”
The Amy Foundation on Wednesday mentioned its public interest litigation (PIL) that was filed last year against the protest in Mumbai by the Maratha quota activist and citing the news surrounding his impending protest again sought an urgent hearing. An intervention plea filed by an advocate, Manoj Mirchandani, said the present developments call for urgent judicial intervention. The HC also took an overall view of the matter and requested the state advocate general Milind Sathe to remain present during the hearing on Thursday.
