"Helping young students learn about information through reading newspapers and periodicals represents a decisive contribution to the development of their awareness, civic sense and democratic participation. The measure that allows all schools to subscribe with public support covering 90% of the costs goes in this direction." This was declared in a statement by the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council with responsibility for Information and Publishing, Alberto Barachini, announcing the green light for the contribution for the purchase of newspapers for approximately 1,040 schools.
The measure adopted by the Department for Information and Publishing - the statement explains - approves the list of schools to which, for the 2025/2026 school year, the contribution is granted in favour of state and accredited schools of all levels and grades for the purchase of one or more subscriptions to daily newspapers, periodicals, scientific and specialist journals, including in digital format. A measure provided for by Article 1, paragraph 320 of Law No. 213 of 2023 (2024 Budget Law), which simplified Law No. 160 of 27 December 2019.
The contribution reimburses up to 90% of expenses incurred. Subsequent decrees will provide for the disbursement of the contribution to the individual beneficiary schools.
