Mario Calabresi appeared at Pordenonelegge to present a preview of "Le voci degli altri" (Mondadori), his new book which aims to be "an encounter with those who feel invisible and forgotten," and declined to speak about his possible candidacy as mayor of Milan.
At the Teatro Verdi in Pordenone, the sold-out event was followed by a lengthy book signing. In conversation with Alberto Garlini, who at the end asked Calabresi whether he would run as mayor, he replied with a smile: "of Pordenone!"
In the book "Le voci degli altri" — dedicated to "all those who need to be heard. To all those who listen" — which will be available in bookshops on September 22 through Mondadori, the journalist and writer, who founded and led the podcast company Chora Media, has gathered the stories of people who feel invisible and of those still trying to build bridges. Among them are a grandmother who has remained the only Italian resident in her public housing block, a woman who works to give an identity to the nameless dead, and a man who has spent his life trying to discover who killed his father. The book takes readers on a journey to rediscover a lost sense of empathy and to break down the walls of indifference.
