"I made a mistake, I shouldn't have fired. But I was in a panic. And now my life is destroyed, I'm afraid of ending up in prison." This is what Roberto Mollo said, according to Corriere della Sera — the 35-year-old from Baldissero D'Alba (Cuneo) being investigated for homicide after shooting and killing a burglar last Saturday night at his farmhouse, which is currently under renovation. The thirty-five-year-old "is down. Very down. He's crying. He does nothing but torment himself. 'I made a mistake,' he keeps repeating. 'I made a mistake.' He was very frightened when he heard them forcing the door. He reacted in a panic. He fired in the dark, you couldn't see a thing. But it shouldn't have gone this way," his brother, Giuseppe Mollo, confirmed to La Stampa. A neighbor, Sergio Barbotto, heard the shots. Roberto Mollo met him while the carabinieri were conducting their initial investigations. "He asked me: 'What will happen to me now? Will I end up like the jeweler Mario Roggero?'" he recounted to the Turin newspaper.
