Meghan Markle is still in talks for a role in Guy Ritchie's series, The Gentlemen, despite reports that she had been dropped following the extremely strong backlash the news generated in the United Kingdom. This is reported by the British tabloid The Sun, according to which Netflix executives are interested in seeing the Duchess of Sussex back on screen, after she gave up acting before her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, though no formal agreement has been reached.
The talks had been discussed in the context of the return of King Charles's younger son and his wife to the United Kingdom, six years after the split with the royal family and their move to California. "Her return to acting should attract a wide audience, both among her supporters and her critics, and is likely to generate significant box office returns. It will be seen as a major coup for whoever manages to sign her," a source told the tabloid, which noted that deals in film and major series often come together at the last minute.
It was Tina Brown, former editor of The New Yorker and Vanity Fair as well as biographer and confidante of Lady Diana, who had stated, in a newsletter published on Substack, that she had learned the casting of the Duchess of Sussex for the third season of The Gentlemen had been withdrawn.
