MOSCOW, September 18. /TASS/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s team wants to nationalize Electric Networks of Armenia, which is owned by a Russian businessman, according to a commentary by Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Alexey Shevtsov released by the press service of the Security Council’s office.
"Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu has stated clearly the Armenian authorities’ attitude to Russian business. Since the middle of 2025, Pashinyan’s team has been systematically moving to nationalization of Electric Networks of Armenia owned by Russian businessman and a key political opponent of the Armenian authorities S. S. Karapetyan, which effectively amounts to corporate raiding," Shevtsov was quoted as saying. "Armenia’s parliament controlled by Pashinyan has passed a law allowing for the appointment of a temporary state administrator, but the Stockholm Arbitration Tribunal suspended the decision and urged that the parties refrain from what amounts to expropriation," he added.
The Armenian government "is selectively approaching the views of international organizations, planning to see the matter through to the end and strip the leader of the largest opposition party of this asset, despite all attempts by the head of the Tashir group of companies to address those issues within the legal framework," Shevtsov stressed.
"It is worth noting that the company is profitable, with its tax contributions to the national budget in 2025 amounting to around $30 mln, meaning it plays a crucial role in the republic’s energy sector," he stated.
